2018 Special Issue on Reader Response and English Education

Guest editors:
Marcello Giovanelli (University of Nottingham, UK)
Jessica Mason (University of Sheffield, UK)

Deadline for submission: 8th May 2017

Teachers of English have long understood the process of reading as a dynamic engagement with meaning. This special issue invites papers that draw on theoretical stances and methodologies that are concerned with ‘reader response’, and in particular consideration of teachers and students as readers. Contributions are welcome from practitioners and researchers in all sectors and phases of English education within the UK and internationally. Papers should be grounded in research but may address any number of relevant issues and debates that generally explore how readers interact with professionals and each other, and with literary and non-literary texts, to construct meanings and knowledge. These might include:

• Empirically-grounded work and sociolinguistic studies of reading inside and outside of the classroom;
• Studies exploring the role and practices of the teacher in the reading classroom;
• Studies that present pedagogical implications of theory and research;
• Theoretical discussions of reader response.

Please prepare for submission in line with the journal’s guidelines for authors, available here: http://bit.ly/EiE_author-guide
