Rapid Communications are a concise but complete description of a limited investigation of a newly emerging pathogen or disease situation of high importance for either or both animal and human health. Rapid Communications are published on an accelerated turn-over (fast-tracked review followed by online publication within 6 weeks of acceptance) to ensure fast dissemination of the content, reflecting the importance of the topic.
They should be as completely documented, both by reference to the literature and description of the experimental procedures employed, as a regular paper and not exceed 6 printed pages with figures, tables and references (about 12 manuscript pages including no more than a total of 4 figures and tables). Headings should be Introduction, Materials and Methods with the Results and Discussion combined and a maximum total text word count of 3000.
On submission, please select ‘Rapid Communication’ as the manuscript type. Please note that this does not guarantee that your paper will be published as a Rapid Communication; this decision is at the Editors’ discretion.
