Cultural and Political Economies of Adoption in Latin America
This special issue of JLACA examines the practice and implications of adoption and fostering in Latin America. As part of the project of redressing the essentialism of family ties, many scholars have recognized the centrality of adoption, both in how it figures in the construction of kinship, and more broadly how it signals the multiple ways that political and economic regimes affect family-making.
