Wiley Prize in Family Science: The Alexis Walker Award

Wiley is now accepting submissions for the third biennial Alexis Walker Award, which honors outstanding original scholarship in the field of family science. The $5,000 award will be presented for the third time at the 79th conference of the National Council on Family Relations in November 2017 in Orlando.

The award was established in 2013 in the memory of Alexis Walker, an eminent scholar and pathfinder in Family Science. Alexis was a visionary leader and mentor known for the service, vitality, and interdisciplinary spirit she brought to the scholarship of gender, feminism, families, and health.

The 2015 Alexis Walker Award was presented to Professor Charlotte J. Patterson of University of Virginia and Dr. Rachel H. Farr of the University of Kentucky for their joint article “Coparenting Among Lesbian, Gay, and Heterosexual Couples: Associations with Adopted Children’s Outcomes,” published in Volume 84 of Child Development in 2013. The first Alexis Walker Award was presented in 2013 to Professor Linda M. Burton, of Duke University and Professor Ingrid Arnet Connidis, of the University of Western Ontario for their work in Family Process and the Journal of Family Theory and Review, respectively.

A panel of judges representing Wiley’s society partnerships in this broad interdisciplinary field will review entries and determine the award winner. The 2013 and 2015 nominations were solicited from Wiley partners including the Family Process Institute, the American Association for Marital and Family Therapy, the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, the Guttmacher Institute, the British Association for the Study and Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, the British Association of Community Child Health, the Swiss Paediatric Society, the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health, and the National Council on Family Relations, to name a few.

Nominations and supporting details should be submitted to Margaret N. Zusky by email at mzusky@wiley.com by September 1, 2017. Please visit here to view the nomination requirements and application form.
