Royal Entomological Society Backfiles

Serial scientific publications of the RES go back to the 1830s following the founding of the society, then as The Entomological Society of London. The first continuing volumes of Transactions and Proceedings appeared in 1836. These serial publications continued in various forms published directly by the society itself until 1975. From 1976 the far-seeing officers of the society at the time went into partnership with the then Wiley-Blackwell house in Oxford. Our journals were completely overhauled and re-launched as three new, peer reviewed, publications under the titles Ecological Entomology (loosely derived from the old Transactions), Physiological Entomology (from Proceedings A) and Systematic Entomology (from Proceedings B). These journals have continued to expand and flourish since 1976, so much so that they have been joined by four other titles over subsequent years – Medical and Veterinary Entomology (1987), Insect Molecular Biology (1992), Agricultural and Forest Entomology (1999) and most recently, Insect Conservation and Diversity (2008).
