Nomogram predicting overall survival of stage IIIB non‐small‐cell lung cancer patients based on the SEER database
-  19 July 2023
Graphical Abstract
The nomogram was built on data of 4323 patients with stage IIIB NSCLC and consisted of the following prognostic factors: age, race, sex, primary labeled, pathology, T stage, whether to receive surgery, whether to receive radiotherapy, and whether to receive chemotherapy, and the model demonstrated excellent predictive performance.

Health‐related quality of life in asthma measured by the World Health Organization brief questionnaire (WHO‐BREF) and the effect of concomitant allergic rhinitis—A population‐based study
-  4 April 2023
Graphical Abstract
Uncontrolled asthma affects health-related quality of life, but the impact of concomitant allergic rhinitis and controlled asthma on global quality of life is highlighted. The presence of asthma negatively impacts all aspects of global quality of life and predicts lower quality of life with worse outcomes with concomitant rhinitis.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is associated with an increased risk of herpes zoster: A retrospective United States claims database analysis
-  826-834
-  22 November 2022
Graphical Abstract
This study reviewed 2013–2018 US insurance claims data to compare the incidence rates of herpes zoster among people 40 years and older with and without chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Adjusting for baseline demographics and clinical characteristics, this study found that people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were nearly three times more likely to develop herpes zoster than those without.
Comparison of static and rolling logistic regression models on predicting invasive mechanical ventilation or death from COVID‐19—A retrospective, multicentre study
-  40-49
-  21 November 2022
Graphical Abstract
When a disease or treatment is rapidly changing, traditional (static) predictive models may lose their accuracy. We show that in 7041 patients of whom 534 (7.6%) required invasive mechanical ventilation or died within 14 days that rolling logistic regression models improved both discrimination and the areas under the precision-recall curves—all p < 0.001.
Screening for obstructive sleep apnea before coronary angiography
-  13-19
-  20 November 2022
Graphical Abstract
OSA screening for patients with suspected coronary heart disease before CAG showed that the prevalence of OSA in CHD patients was higher than that in non-CHD patients. AHI ≥ 20 is a risk factor for CHD. Therefore, OSA screening and management should be paid attention to before CAG in patients with suspected CHD.
‘Teach me how to look after myself’: What people with bronchiectasis want from education in a pulmonary rehabilitation setting
-  59-69
-  20 November 2022
Graphical Abstract
In the education component of pulmonary rehabilitation, people with bronchiectasis seek to obtain greater clarity on the underlying cause of their condition and its prognosis. Further knowledge about self-management strategies, treatment for extra-pulmonary symptoms and the role of exercise outside of pulmonary rehabilitation as part of management were also desired.
Features of transbronchial lung cryobiopsy‐diagnosed fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis
-  50-58
-  17 November 2022
Graphical Abstract
This study describes the clinical and pathological features of fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis diagnosed with transbronchial lung crybiopsy. Usual interstitial pneumonia was the most frequent pathological finding of fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis. Transbronchial lung crybiopsy could be considered as a diagnostic technique for fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis.
Characteristics and difference of respiratory diseases in Korean adults aged ≥40 years: A cross‐sectional study
-  29-39
-  15 November 2022
Graphical Abstract
The odds ratio (OR) of having asthma + COPD among patients with asthma was lower in females and older people. Regarding BMI, risk of asthma + COPD was higher in underweight patients with asthma as compared with those with normal BMI, whereas the association was lower in overweight subjects. In contrast to asthma patients, females, older ages, and overweight patients with COPD had higher risk of asthma + COPD.
Development and implementation of an aspiration pneumonia cause investigation algorithm
-  20-28
-  14 November 2022
Graphical Abstract
Aspiration pneumonia remains an underdiagnosed and unestablished diagnosis. We propose the use of an algorithm (developed based on the JRS guidelines) to enable adequate management of older adults with pneumonia. When implemented in an acute setting, the algorithm enhanced the diagnosis of causative conditions, swallow screening, and preventative measures.

Effect of compliance to continuous positive airway pressure on exacerbations, lung function and symptoms in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and obstructive sleep apnea (overlap syndrome)
- The Clinical Respiratory Journal
-  165-175
-  12 January 2023
Graphical Abstract
This study assessed the effects of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) compliance on acute exacerbations of COPD, symptoms and pulmonary function in patients with overlap syndrome (OS). In total, 59 patients (54 males) with OS were followed for 12 months and divided post hoc according to CPAP compliance into those with good (≥4 h CPAP use/night, n = 29) and those with poor (<4 h CPAP use/night, n = 30) CPAP compliance. COPD exacerbations decreased in patients with good CPAP compliance from baseline to 12 months (17 before vs. 5 after, p = 0.001), but not in those with poor compliance (15 before vs. 15 after, p = 1).

A pooled analysis of the risk prediction models for mortality in acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- The Clinical Respiratory Journal
-  707-718
-  21 March 2023
Graphical Abstract
We conducted a meta-analysis of AECOPD mortality risk prediction models. The results showed that DECAF performs well in predicting in-hospital death [C-statistic = 0.91, 95%CI: 0.83–0.98] and 90-day death [C-statistic = 0.76, 95%CI: 0.69–0.82] and CURB-65 performs well in predicting 30-day death [C-statistic = 0.74, 95%CI: 0.70–0.77].
Clinical characteristics and serum inflammatory markers of community‐acquired mycoplasma pneumonia in children
- The Clinical Respiratory Journal
-  607-617
-  4 May 2023
Graphical Abstract
We compare the demographic and clinical features, laboratory and imaging findings in mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) children with non-MPP (NMPP) children and general MPP (GMPP) children with refractory MPP (RMPP) children and analysis the relationship with the severity of disease. This study showed that the measurement of IL-6, LDH, IL-10 and D-dimer can be useful predictors for RMPP. There were differences in clinical characteristics and serum inflammatory markers between MPP group and NMPP group, RMPP group and GMPP group.
Clinical evaluation of nebulized verapamil in out‐patients with pulmonary hypertension secondary to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- The Clinical Respiratory Journal
-  802-811
-  6 November 2022
Graphical Abstract
Single dose nebulized verapamil inhalation showed improvement in V/Q mismatch throught increase FVC. Nebulized verapamil inhalation improved gas exchanged and increased spO2. Nebulized verapamil inhalation for out-patients with pulmonary hypertension secondary to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease improved spirometric parameter. The FEV1/FVC ratio decreased significantly after verapamil administration due to more potent bronchodilator on small airways.
