Overview

The Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology (JMIRO) is an international journal of scientific excellence in radiology and radiation oncology. It is the official journal of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.

Established in 1957 as Australasian Radiology, JMIRO promotes practice and research. We publish cutting edge original articles, case studies and commissioned reviews on all aspects of radiology and radiation oncology, including interventional radiology and interventional neuroradiology. Our Editors welcome and support early, mid and senior career researchers, and judge manuscripts on the basis of their scientific contribution. See our Aims and Scope and Author Guidelines to learn more.

RANZCR Reviewer Initiative

From 1 January 2021, RANZCR will be making a charity donation for every “sufficient” or “highly relevant” review completed within five days. For every review meeting this requirement, RANZCR will donate $50 to Cancer Council Australia or Cancer Society New Zealand, up to a maximum donation of $5,000 per year across both organisations.

This Special Issue of JMIRO is the first in a series that examines diversity, equity and inclusion: in our colleagues, our patients and ourselves. This issue examines gender diversity, specifically representation of women authored by women, acknowledging that there is a void of data regarding the presence, contributions and workplace experiences of gender non-binary and transgender providers. It also offers our readership personal and institutional tactics on how to fully include sexual and gender minorities.

Immunotherapy Special Issue

Immunotherapy has fundamentally transformed the cancer treatment landscape, resulting in improved survival and quality of life for many patients.

Amidst the promise of immunotherapy is the sobering observation that a vast majority of cancers will either not respond to immune checkpoint inhibitors upfront or will develop treatment resistance at a later stage.

Our hope is that this Special Issue will be helpful to radiation oncologists by presenting a comprehensive and accessible survey of the underlying principles, current data, and emerging strategies in cancer immunotherapy, with a focus on avenues that radiation therapy can play an important role in.

Pink Ribbon Virtual Issue

This special edition of recent Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology articles on breast cancer diagnosis and treatment is a reflection of original scientific articles published in the journal that have received the most downloads or citations in the last 4 years.

These articles reflect advances in breast cancer diagnostics such as fast MRI breast screening, contrast-enhanced spectral mammography, as well as diagnostic and screening dilemmas. They also reflect on current and emerging issues for breast cancer treatment and radiation oncology.
