Barlow's mitral valve with a dancing chorda
-  30 September 2023
Graphical Abstract

Transthoracic echocardiography demonstrated severe anteriorly directed mitral valve regurgitation in a patient with a history of Barlows disease and mitral valve prolapse. Further investigation with M-mode echocardiography revealed high-frequency oscillations corresponding to the dancing movement of a ruptured chorda.

Iron deficiency without anemia – a clinical challenge
-  1082-1086
-  17 April 2018
Graphical Abstract

One should always consider iron deficiency (without anemia) as the cause of persisting, unexplained unspecific, often severe, symptoms, regardless of the primary underlying disease. The symptoms of iron deficiency may arise from the metabolic systems where many proteins are iron containing. Long-standing iron deficiency may be challenging to treat.
Deep brain stimulation in the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis and medial forebrain bundle in a patient with major depressive disorder and anorexia nervosa
-  679-684
-  31 March 2017
Graphical Abstract

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) may be considered in severe cases of therapy-refractory major depressive disorder (MDD). However, DBS for MDD is still an experimental therapy. Therefore, it should only be administered in clinical studies driven by multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons with substantial experience of DBS in the treatment of other conditions.
Subacute thyroiditis following COVID‐19 vaccination
-  4 October 2021
Graphical Abstract

Physicians should be alert about the possibility of subacute thyroiditis (SAT) being induced by COVID-19 vaccination. SAT may present with anterior neck pain, extended fever or palpitation in recently vaccinated patients, which should not be easily dismissed as expected post-vaccination flu-like symptoms, thereby, facilitating in time diagnosis and treatment.
Iron deficiency anemia due to excessive green tea drinking
-  1053-1056
-  5 October 2016
Graphical Abstract

Tea interferes with iron absorption and can lead to iron deficiency anemia when consumed in large quantities. The rechallenge effect of green tea on anemia in a middle-aged man emphasizes the potential causal role of this beverage. Lifestyle and dietary habits are important diagnostic considerations in diseases of this type.

Graphical Abstract

We report a patient with primary infertility and clinical manifestation of premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) who upon investigation was found to have streak ovaries, and genetic testing revealed Trisomy X (47, XXX). Therefore, we suggest for genetic testing in women with POI to detect common aneuploidies for better counseling and treatment.
