The American Journal of Biological Anthropology (AJBA) is the leading publication in physical anthropology. We welcome for consideration manuscripts that contribute to an understanding of the adaptations, variability, and evolution of human beings and their living and fossil relatives throughout the order Primates.
We publish articles within an anthropological or evolutionary context in the areas of bioarcheology, paleoanthropology, skeletal biology, genetics, human biology, and non-human primate behavior and ecology. We also seek submissions in new and developing areas that contribute to the growth of the field.

This issue of the Yearbook of Biological Anthropology marks my penultimate issue and the first that the Yearbook has been published as the Yearbook of Biological Anthropology rather than as the Yearbook of Physical Anthropology. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the Associate Editors for the Yearbook, these being: Jada Benn Torres, Jane Buikstra, Noreen von Cramon-Taubadel, Darryl de Ruiter, Eduardo Fernández-Duque, Agustín Fuentes, Debbie Guatelli-Steinberg, and Laura MacLatchy. Yearbook articles ordinarily are solicited, and consequently I rely heavily on the Associate Editors to identify emerging as well as traditional areas of research and to suggest scholars who can provide stimulating review articles. With this said, we are also open to authors volunteering potential articles for the Yearbook. The deadline for the 2023 issue has passed, and planning should be beginning for the 2024 issue. The 2024 issue and the following four issues will be under the very capable direction of co-editors Sheela Athreya and Graciela Cabana, so if you have an idea for a manuscript, please do not hesitate to contact them at https://www.yearbookbioanth.com/editors-2024-2028.
This issue of the Yearbook of Physical Anthropology marks my third year serving as Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Yearbook and marks the middle issue of my tenure as EIC (2019–2023). I would first like to offer my sincere thanks to the Associate Editors for the Yearbook, these being: Jada Benn Torres, Jane Buikstra, Noreen von Cramon-Taubadel, Darryl de Ruiter, Eduardo Fernández-Duque, Agustín Fuentes, Debbie Guatelli-Steinberg, and Laura MacLatchy. Yearbook articles ordinarily are solicited, and consequently I rely heavily on the Associate Editors to identify emerging as well as traditional areas of research and to suggest scholars who can provide stimulating review articles. With this said, we are also open to authors volunteering potential articles for the Yearbook. If you are considering submitting a manuscript to the Yearbook, please do not hesitate to contact me or one of the Associate Editors with a proposal for an article. If the proposal has merit, then you will be formally invited to submit a manuscript electronically in Scholar One. The deadline for first submissions of manuscripts is June 30th of each year. This being the 2021 issue, the deadline for the 2022 issue is imminent. As a practical matter, it is the 2023 issue that is in the planning stages now.
This issue of the Yearbook of Physical Anthropology marks my second year serving as Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Yearbook. I would first like to offer my sincere thanks to the Associate Editors for the Yearbook, these being: Jane Buikstra, Darryl De Ruiter, Eduardo Fernández-Duque, Agustín Fuentes, Debbie Guatelli-Steinberg, Laura MacLatchy, Connie Mulligan, and John Relethford. Sadly, the Yearbook is losing two of these Associate Editors in the coming year. Jada Benn Torres will replace Connie Mulligan and Noreen von Cramon-Taubadel will replace John Relethford. I welcome both Jada and Noreen onto the editorial board and again thank Connie and John for their service. Yearbook articles ordinarily are solicited, and consequently I rely heavily on the Associate Editors to identify emerging as well as traditional areas of research and to suggest scholars who can provide stimulating review articles. This being the 2020 issue, the deadline for the 2021 issue is this June, which is only a few months away. The deadline for the 2022 issue will be June 30, 2021. The 2022 issue will be my penultimate as EIC, so there are only two more submission deadlines.
