Author Guidelines

The mission of the Journal of Business Logistics (JBL) is to become your journal of choice for original, high-quality, thought-provoking supply chain research that will make a valuable contribution to supply chain theory and practice. We encourage you to submit your best research that is

  • theoretically grounded,
  • methodologically rigorous,
  • managerially relevant, and
  • written in a clear, concise, and compelling style.

The journal takes a multifunctional, multidisciplinary approach to understanding decision-making related to value-creation processes. Topics of interest include alliance management, collaboration, customer service, forecasting, inventory management, global issues in SCM, logistics planning and control, operations management, performance measurement/management, product development, supply chain costing, sourcing management, supply chain design, sustainability, technology’s role in SCM, transportation management, and warehouse management. The journal is also interested in various methods, including archival, case study/structured interview, econometric modeling, ethnography, experimental design, optimization, simulation, and survey.

The journal invites innovative and provocative viewpoints that will stimulate discussion and advance the management of value-creation processes and networks.

  

Manuscript Submission

Submit your original, unpublished manuscripts to Journal of Business Logistics through ScholarOne at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jbl.

  

Manuscript Type

Two types of manuscripts can be submitted to Journal of Business Logistics: 1) research manuscripts and 2) Special Topics Forums manuscripts. Manuscript titles should not exceed 25 words and abstracts should be 200 words or less. During submission, select one or more methodology and one or more topical keyword(s). The editors pay close attention to the contribution to length ratio.

  

Manuscript Review

All reviews are ‘‘double blind’’—reviewers do not know whose manuscripts they are reviewing, and authors do not know who their reviewers are. To preserve anonymity, authors must avoid revealing their identity in any way. One Associate Editor along with three members of the Editorial Review Board are invited to review each submission and to make publication recommendations to the Editors-in-Chief.

The Journal of Business Logistics employs the APA Style for references as follows:

  • Author(s) name (last name and initial(s)),
  • Year the work was published (in parentheses),
  • Title of work (in sentence case),
  • Journal, serial, proceedings or book in which the work was published (italicized),
  • Volume and number of the issue,
  • Page numbers (in the case of journals, serials and proceedings).
  • DOI/URL where applicable

Proofs

Authors will receive an e-mail notification with a link and instructions for accessing HTML page proofs online. Page proofs should be carefully proofread for any copyediting or typesetting errors. Online guidelines are provided within the system. No special software is required, most common browsers are supported. Authors should also make sure that any renumbered tables, figures, or references match text citations and that figure legends correspond with text citations and actual figures. Proofs must be returned within 48 hours of receipt of the email. Return of proofs via e-mail is possible in the event that the online system cannot be used or accessed.

 

Conflict of Interest Statement

Authors must declare any conflict of interest caused by financial support or relationships by disclosing at the time of submission any arrangements they have with an organization whose conduct figures prominently in the submitted manuscript. Such information will be treated confidentially while the paper is under review. If the journal accepts the article for publication, the editor will usually discuss with the authors the manner in which such information is to be communicated to the reader.

 

Copyright

Authors will be required to sign a copyright assignment form upon submission. Copyright assignment is a condition of publication and papers will not be passed to the publisher for production unless copyright has been assigned. 

If your paper is accepted, the author identified as the formal corresponding author for the paper will receive an email prompting them to login into Author Services; where via the Wiley Author Licensing Service (WALS) they will be able to complete the license agreement on behalf of all authors on the paper.

 

For authors signing the copyright transfer agreement

If the Open Access option is not selected the corresponding author will be presented with the copyright transfer agreement (CTA) to sign. The terms and conditions of the CTA can be previewed in the samples associated with the Copyright FAQs.

  

For authors choosing Open Access

If the Open Access option is selected the corresponding author will have a choice of the following Creative Commons License Open Access Agreements (OAA):

  • Creative Commons Attribution License OAA
  • Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License OAA
  • Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial -NoDerivs License OAA
