Front Cover Picture: Toward Automated Enzymatic Glycan Synthesis in a Compartmented Flow Microreactor System (Adv. Synth. Catal. 19/2019)

  • Pages: 3399
  • First Published: 05 September 2019
Description unavailable

The front cover picture, provided by Matthias Franzreb and Lothar Elling, and their co-workers, illustrates the automated enzymatic synthesis of the non-sulfated human natural killer cell-1 (HNK-1) glycan epitope. A cascade of compartmented magnetic enzyme beads (MEBs) in a microfluidic flow microreactor system resulted in a high-yield glycan synthesis. Expanding the repertoire of MEBs for other glycosyltransferases and enzymes for nucleotide sugar synthesis has the potential for a fully automated and programmed enzymatic glycan synthesis. Details of this work can be found in the Full Paper on pages 4506–4516 (R. Heinzler, T. Fischöder, L. Elling, M. Franzreb, Adv. Synth. Catal. 2019, 361, 4506–4516; DOI: 10.1002/adsc.201900709).

Cover Picture: Diversification of Peptidomimetics and Oligopeptides through Microwave-Assisted Rhodium(III)-Catalyzed Intramolecular Annulation (Adv. Synth. Catal. 19/2019)

  • Pages: 4400
  • First Published: 26 August 2019
Description unavailable

The inside cover picture, designed by Liangliang Song from the group of Erik V. Van der Eycken, illustrates a chemoselective rhodium(III)-catalyzed cascade annulation for the construction of the indolizinone and quinolizinone scaffolds. Diversification of peptidomimetics and oligopeptides is achieved in a rapid and step-economical manner through the combination of Ugi reaction and microwave-assisted rhodium(III)-catalyzed intramolecular annulation via C(sp2)−H activation without installing a directing group. Details of this work can be found in the Communication on pages 4442–4447 (L. Song, G. Tian, A. Blanpain, L. Van Meervelt, E. V. Van der Eycken, Adv. Synth. Catal. 2019, 361, 4442–4447; DOI: 10.1002/adsc.201900550).
